healthy atmosphere, the following are guidelines set forth for dress on the campus of<br />

<strong>Tougaloo</strong> <strong>College</strong>:<br />

1. During special occasions (convocations, graduate and professional school conference,<br />

employment opportunities, coronation, banquets, etc.) business or formal wear (shirt<br />

and tie, business suit, blazer and dress skirt/slacks, or dress) (dinner dress, formal,<br />

business, or tuxedo) should be worn.<br />

2. Other events such as social or sport events (i.e. Greek shows, dances, inter-collegiate<br />

athletic competitions) require informal and respectable apparel.<br />

3. Male headdress such as hats, caps, and “do rags” are inappropriate for males in all<br />

indoor functions.<br />

4. “Do rags”, stocking caps, or scarves are inappropriate for a higher education<br />

environment.<br />

5. Male dress that includes sagging or unbelted pants is also considered inappropriate.<br />

6. Female students are expected to present themselves in appropriate dress at all times.<br />

7. Inappropriate dress may include midriff tops, short shorts (boy shorts), halter-tops, or<br />

other apparel of a revealing nature that is worn publicly.<br />

8. All students must wear shoes, boots, or footwear made for outside.<br />

9. Dress, grooming, and hygiene should not disrupt the academic process.<br />

10. Additional dress requirements may be mandated for students participating in<br />

extracurricular activities.<br />

11. Pajamas, night clothes, stocking caps, hair rollers, and bedroom slippers shall not be<br />

worn outside of the residence halls.<br />

12. Clothing which allow undergarments to be visible is not permitted. (This includes<br />

sports undergarments)<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s that continue to violate this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.<br />

6. Freedom of Speech and of Press<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s have the freedom of speech and freedom of press. These freedoms are not to be<br />

used to violate the rights of others and should conform to local, state and federal statutes.<br />

7. Immoral Relationship<br />

Immoral acts by students on campus will result in disciplinary action. Such acts include<br />

obscene gestures, improper body exposures, stripping, vulgar/abusive language toward or<br />

in the vicinity of students, employees, or visitors of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

8. Intoxicating Beverages<br />

a. Intoxicating beverages will not be brought onto campus.<br />

b. The sale of intoxicating beverages on <strong>College</strong> property is prohibited.<br />

c. Intoxicating beverages will not be served at any college-sponsored student function.<br />
