objectionable to the recipient, including, but not limited to epithets derogatory or<br />
suggestive comments, slurs, or gestures or offensive postures, cartoons, pictures, or<br />
drawings, and patting or excessive touching is strictly prohibited.<br />
20. Slander<br />
The dissemination of false statements that call into question the character and reputation<br />
of another individual. Violation can subject the individual to suspension from the<br />
<strong>College</strong>. Individuals have the right to file civil charges (criminal offense).<br />
21. Smoking<br />
Smoking by students, staff, faculty, visitors, and repairperson is not permitted on campus<br />
including offices, classrooms, residential halls, labs, cafeteria, etc. This also includes all<br />
<strong>College</strong> rental and privately owned vehicles used for transportation on and off campus.<br />
22. Theft<br />
The taking, possession or keeping of property that belongs to the <strong>College</strong>, another<br />
student, faculty, staff administrators, student groups or visitors without proper<br />
authorization is prohibited. Removal of cafeteria utensils falls under this policy. Violation<br />
of this policy will result in suspension for the first offense and expulsion for the second<br />
offense.<br />
23. Vandalism<br />
Individuals found guilty of destroying, damaging, or defacing <strong>College</strong> property, personal<br />
property of students, administrators, faculty or staff, or property of vendors will be<br />
subject to disciplinary action. This action could include suspension from the <strong>College</strong> or<br />
residence halls.<br />
Range of Sanctions and Penalties<br />
Disciplinary sanctions are intended to serve as educational reprimands rather that to unduly<br />
punish student or student organization offenders. The judicial body imposing sanctions will give<br />
due consideration to precedent and seek to ensure equitable treatment of similar offenses.<br />
Sanctions imposed by the judicial body shall be in full force and effect from the time of the<br />
disposition unless the student appeals the case. In such case, the sanction(s) may be held in<br />
abeyance until the appeal is resolved. A wide range of sanctions exists in order to preserve<br />
flexibility so that each student is afforded the most appropriate and just treatment by the judicial<br />
body.<br />
Duly authorized judicial boards or the <strong>College</strong> may impose any of the following sanctions,<br />
depending upon the seriousness of the conduct in question and the circumstances of the case:<br />
