Bulgarian food <strong>in</strong>dustry is los<strong>in</strong>g competitive advantages <strong>and</strong> has little perspectives for growth <strong>in</strong> a near<br />

future. Policy makers have to prioritize <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> food <strong>in</strong>dustry, as a traditional <strong>in</strong>dustrial sector.<br />

Rega<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> positions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> past requires <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>of</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong> sectorial strategy development. A key<br />

factor for sectorial growth is <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestments, differentiation <strong>of</strong> product mix <strong>and</strong> implementation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>novations. Policy makers have to create favorable conditions for establishment <strong>of</strong> technological <strong>and</strong><br />

trade alliances, networks <strong>and</strong> partnerships. This will help to divide <strong>the</strong> whole risk <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestments <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>novations <strong>and</strong> market efforts. There is a potential <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sector, but it needs specific exogenous conditions<br />

to flourish.<br />
