However, though dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> late years a relatively <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g rate <strong>of</strong> employed people with disability <strong>in</strong><br />

Romania, <strong>the</strong> statistics provided by ANPH show that <strong>the</strong> active people with disabilities employed are<br />

represented at a very small scale.<br />

2. Purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study<br />

The present study is meant to identify <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> obstacles prevent<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> people with disabilities <strong>in</strong><br />

f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a job, by track<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> impediments <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>in</strong>tegration as well as reveal<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> drawbacks<br />

opposed by employers.<br />

3. Methods<br />

This study analyzes <strong>the</strong> disabled persons’ op<strong>in</strong>ions on f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a job <strong>and</strong> employment, as well as <strong>the</strong><br />

employers’ attitude <strong>and</strong> regards toward <strong>the</strong> applicants with disability, subsequently follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

identification <strong>of</strong> elements that can <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong> employment <strong>of</strong> a disabled person.<br />

The targets <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r research were oriented to:<br />

- Identification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> factors expla<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> small number <strong>of</strong> persons with disabilities <strong>in</strong>tegrated on<br />

<strong>the</strong> free labor market;<br />

- Identification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> barriers confronted by disabled people while try<strong>in</strong>g to get employed;<br />

- Outl<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> general op<strong>in</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> disabled persons <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> factors <strong>and</strong> conditions that may lead to<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> employed people with disabilities<br />

In pursuit <strong>of</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>g this study we had <strong>in</strong> view <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g hypo<strong>the</strong>ses:<br />

- We presume that employers’ attitude <strong>and</strong> regard towards people with disabilities are generally<br />

positive, but <strong>the</strong>y are not especially <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ed to actively <strong>in</strong>volve <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> social <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegration process because <strong>the</strong>y lack some successful models mostly <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>the</strong> public<br />

employers;<br />

- We presume that <strong>the</strong> decision <strong>of</strong> employ<strong>in</strong>g a person with disabilities depends at great extent on <strong>the</strong><br />

type <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>icap degree;<br />

- We presume that employers’ decision to employ a disabled person relies mostly on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>direct<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial costs <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r employees’/collaborators’ op<strong>in</strong>ions;<br />

- We presume that <strong>in</strong>teraction or knowledge <strong>of</strong> disabled people’s challenges <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong> employers’<br />

decision to recruit such an applicant.<br />

The study lot consisted <strong>of</strong> 60 subjects, 39 with locomotor disability, 12 with visual impairment <strong>and</strong> 9<br />

with hear<strong>in</strong>g impairment.<br />

We processed <strong>in</strong>terviews for each subcategory <strong>of</strong> disabled persons. Gender distribution is heterogeneous<br />

– <strong>the</strong> present study was attended by 36 male subjects <strong>and</strong> 24 female subjects. All <strong>in</strong>terviewed persons were<br />

look<strong>in</strong>g for a job opportunity. The choice <strong>of</strong> subjects considered <strong>the</strong>ir educational level (graduates <strong>of</strong> faculty<br />

or vocational school prevailed), h<strong>and</strong>icap type <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>icap severity.<br />

The scarce amount <strong>of</strong> subjects <strong>in</strong>terviewed is due to a serial <strong>of</strong> difficulties encountered dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

identification <strong>and</strong> contact establishment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> people affected by various deficiencies still search<strong>in</strong>g a job.<br />

Consider<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> low rate <strong>of</strong> disabled persons active on <strong>the</strong> free labor market, <strong>in</strong> order to <strong>in</strong>terview a<br />

consistent number <strong>of</strong> subjects look<strong>in</strong>g for a job, we would have been mean<strong>in</strong>gfully helped by some support<br />

from authorized <strong>in</strong>stitutions, not only from <strong>the</strong> special NGOs contacted.
