Percentage <strong>of</strong> those who are very satisfied or satisfied with work<strong>in</strong>g conditions <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir ma<strong>in</strong> paid job<br />

is <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> predictor both <strong>of</strong> EIU Quality <strong>of</strong> Life Index (R square = 0.429), <strong>of</strong> HDI 2005 (R square =<br />

0.619) <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> SWLS (R square = 0.61).<br />

Percentage <strong>of</strong> those who agree that <strong>the</strong>ir job <strong>of</strong>fers <strong>the</strong>m good prospects for career advancement<br />

expla<strong>in</strong>s 68.4% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total variance <strong>in</strong> OECD Life Satisfaction <strong>in</strong>dicator, while toge<strong>the</strong>r with<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g hours - family/ social commitments outside work fit <strong>and</strong> proportion <strong>of</strong> those usually work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

less than 30 hours per week <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir ma<strong>in</strong> paid job account for 79.5% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total variance <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

predicted variable.<br />

HDI 2010 values are <strong>the</strong> best predicted by <strong>the</strong> percentage <strong>of</strong> those who agree that <strong>the</strong>y might lose<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir job <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> next 6 months (R square = 0.624).<br />

If <strong>the</strong> dataset for 2005 shows <strong>the</strong> percentage <strong>of</strong> those who are very satisfied or satisfied with work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

conditions <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir ma<strong>in</strong> paid job as <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> predictor <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> three composite <strong>in</strong>dicators <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life,<br />

<strong>the</strong> second dataset identifies substantial differences for different <strong>in</strong>dicators <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life, as well as for<br />

<strong>the</strong> same <strong>in</strong>dicator (HDI) at different moments (2005 <strong>and</strong> 2010).<br />

It can be concluded that although <strong>the</strong>re are <strong>in</strong>dicators <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> work which could expla<strong>in</strong> high<br />

proportions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> variance <strong>in</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life <strong>in</strong>dicators, results do not allow identify<strong>in</strong>g a predictor that is<br />

stable both <strong>in</strong> time <strong>and</strong> among different measures <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life.<br />
