<strong>the</strong> tree ei<strong>the</strong>r as a leaf or through <strong>the</strong> formation <strong>of</strong> two geographical branches: Sou<strong>the</strong>ast Asia <strong>and</strong> ex-soviet<br />

economies. France occupies <strong>the</strong> central hub <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> network, which co<strong>in</strong>cides with recent f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs from<br />

research on European f<strong>in</strong>ancial markets.<br />

A number <strong>of</strong> topics for fur<strong>the</strong>r research can be suggested by this paper. One is to exam<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong> evolution<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terconnections <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> network accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong> development, by exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> empirical<br />

evidence support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> “decoupl<strong>in</strong>g hypo<strong>the</strong>sis”, mean<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> claim that emergent market economies could<br />

have diverged from advanced economies dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> recent period <strong>of</strong> globalization. O<strong>the</strong>r topics <strong>in</strong>clude<br />

research<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> determ<strong>in</strong>ants <strong>of</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess cycle <strong>in</strong>terdependence <strong>and</strong> study<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> network’s local properties<br />

<strong>and</strong> its relation to local <strong>and</strong> regional economic growth.<br />
