F<strong>in</strong>ally, AnnaAustestad (HiO) is study<strong>in</strong>g visual culture <strong>in</strong> rel<strong>at</strong>ion to the n<strong>at</strong>ional curriculumand Målfrid Irene Hagen (Buskerud University College) is <strong>in</strong>vestig<strong>at</strong><strong>in</strong>gthe role of art, design and architecture <strong>in</strong> companies.Doctors <strong>at</strong> other universities and abroadIn 2000, Hilde Lidén got her doctoral degree <strong>at</strong> the Faculty of Social Studies<strong>at</strong> the University of Oslo (UiO). She studied how children learned throughcultural processes <strong>in</strong> a pluralistic environment (Lidén, 2000). ElisabethLønnå received her degree <strong>at</strong> the same faculty <strong>in</strong> 2002. She has studied thelegacy and writ<strong>in</strong>gs of Helga Eng (Lønnå, 2002). Both Marit Holm Hopperstadand Bjørn Magne Aakre got their degree <strong>at</strong> the Faculty of <strong>Educ<strong>at</strong>ion</strong><strong>at</strong> the NTNU <strong>in</strong> Trondheim. Hopperstad f<strong>in</strong>ished <strong>in</strong> 2002 with a study onchildren’s draw<strong>in</strong>g and mean<strong>in</strong>g mak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> k<strong>in</strong>dergarten. Her f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs arediscussed <strong>in</strong> a semiotic perspective (Hopperstad, 2002). Aakre has <strong>in</strong> his thesisdescribed and analysed the background for how design has been <strong>in</strong>cluded<strong>in</strong> the n<strong>at</strong>ional curricula <strong>in</strong> the secondary educ<strong>at</strong>ion (Aakre, 2005). In 2003,Ellen Sæthre-McGuirk f<strong>in</strong>ished her thesis <strong>at</strong> the K<strong>at</strong>holieke Universiteit iLeuven, Belgium. Her topic was Susanne Langer’s aesthetic theory and itsapplic<strong>at</strong>ion to the works of art by Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman. BothArne Marius Samuelsen and Guri Østby got their degree <strong>at</strong> the Faculty ofArt History <strong>at</strong> the University of Bergen (UiB). Samuelsen has studied thedissem<strong>in</strong><strong>at</strong>ion of art for children <strong>in</strong> primary school (Samuelsen, 2003). Østbyhas <strong>in</strong>vestig<strong>at</strong>ed how art can be used as a medium for general educ<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>in</strong>primary school (Østby, 2006). Venke Aure is expected to f<strong>in</strong>ish her thesis <strong>at</strong>Stockholm University <strong>in</strong> 2009.
