5.4.5 Neither the bus nor rail timetables show any information about rail-busconnections. The incumbent train operating company does provideinformation on the link to Sidmouth on its website, although this onlymentions service 52B, not 379 on Sundays 17 . Until their withdrawal earlier thisyear, the same inf ormation was provided in their Train Times book.Walking Routes5.4.6 There are five walking routes from the railway station platforms to the busstop. None of the routes are signed for the bus connection. From the southsideplatform, one route goes through a gateway from the platform adjacentto the station b uilding and leads round the front of the station down a verygentle ramp to the bus stop. The route is level and problem-free.5.4.7 The second route from the south-side platform goes through the ticket officeand down a gentle ramp to the bus stop. There are three doors on the routewhich are not automatic and could cause problems for those with mobilityimpairments.5.4.8 There are also three routes from the north-side platform, which is on the farside of the railway tracks from the bus stop. The main route goes over thefootbridge to the south-side platform and either of the routes above. Thesteps onto the footbridge could be difficult for people with mobilityimpairments, children in pushchairs, or heavy luggage.5.4.9 The best step-free access route between the two p latforms is at the easternend, a level foot crossing across the railway tracks. This route is only usab lewith staff assistance and therefore only during the staffed hours of thestation. It involves two ramps and crossing the two railway lines.5.4.10 Without staff assistance, a much longer step-free route between the twoplatforms is available, leaving the north-side platform by a path to the carpark and then proceeding to the south side of the station along the footwaysof the road, which is narrow where the road passes underneath the railway.This route is also long and quite steep. oad to the north-side platform, while shorter, is very steep and unsuitab lefor many people with mobility impairments.Waiting Environments5.4.11 The waiting environment at the railway station is good. There are seats insid ethe ticket office and benches on the platform, two of which are protectedfrom the weather by the station awning. The area is clean, well lit and free ofgraffiti. Safety is good as the station is staffed from 5:50am to 7:45pm onweekdays, 6:10am to 7:45pm on Saturdays and 8:30am to 7:50pm on Sundays.The north-side platform also has a shelter with seating, and benches on theplatform.5.4.12 The waiting environment at the bus stop is fair. There is shelter availab leunder the overhang of the railway station roof but no seating. The area isclean and free of graffiti but the bus timetab le case is scratched and has glueor sticky tape marks on it which makes the small text on the timetab lesharder to read.Interchange Facilities5.4.13 Honiton rail-bus interchange has a fairly good range of facilities. The railwaystation has a staffed ticket office open throughout the day, toilets, a selfserviceticket machine, a full range of information leaf lets and standardtimetables, an electronic departures board on the platform and another in theticket office. The station has good signage. There is a public telephoneoutside the station.Likely Usage5.4.14 The Honiton Rail-Bus interchange already provides useful connections onweekdays and Saturdays to access the coast. However, interchange returningfrom the coast is poor, since only three buses a day from Sidmouth stop at therailway station. At other times a walk of about 10 minutes from Lace Walk onHoniton High Street is required. On Sundays rail-bus connections at Honitonare very poor in both directions.5.4.15 Connections from the train to the bus are best coming from the Londondirection.
