3.5.4 The Durdle Door camping and caravan site is served by the D2D demandresponsive 103 service. Only three journeys per day serve Durdle Door and, considering the remoteness, sparse population and distance from the X53 buscorridor, it is difficult to envisage how the frequency of the service could beincreased. On the p lus side, the service allows passengers to book the serviceso that it serves the site itself, rather than just the nearest bus stop.3.5.5 The Kimmeridge sites are the most isolated in terms of public transportaccessibility, several miles away from the main service 40 bus corridor, andserved by the 275 bus service that operates on Thursdays only. Consideringthe remoteness of Kimmeridge and its sparse population, it is difficult to seehow bus service frequency could be increased, unless a flexibly routeddemand responsive service is introduced in the Purbeck area (as describedtowards the end of the Bring services closer to site section).3.5.6 There are also some smaller, remoter sites that are either a significantdistance from the nearest bus stop or that are served by a very infrequent busservice. These sites have not been further analysed for the following reasons:- By their very nature, visitor numbers at these sites will be smaller; and- Visitors to these sites may have lower expectations about the quality ofthe transport links availab le.3.6 Strategy Measure C: Provide bus stops closer to accommodation sites3.6.1 There are several camping and caravan sites where either buses pass muchcloser to the site than the nearest ‘official’ bus stop or where nearby stops donot exist in the official NaPTAN database (and consequently do not appear inTraveline online timetab les). Table 3.3 highlights locations where some kindof bus stop infrastructure exists on the ground, but where there is no recordof the stop in terms of the NaPTAN data. Table 3.4 highlights locations whereno bus stop infrastructure is present (and likewise does not exist on theNaPTAN database) but where new bus stops would reduce the walk distancefrom the accommodation site.3.6.2 Steps should therefore be taken to reduce the distance visitors are required towalk to access bus services by formalising existing ones and providing new busstops with bus stop infrastructure, as per the action points in Tables 3.3 and3.4.Doc No 3 Rev: B Date: November 2008 54G:\Final Report Web version\CTR-ADA Study Report Rev9.4. doc
