Walking Routes5.5.7 There are three walking routes from the railway station platforms to the busstop. Two routes are signed ‘Way Out’ and later ‘Buses’ and the third issigned with a wheelchair symbol. Two routes are availab le during stationopening hours (which are not posted), and one route out of hours. The firstroute, signed ‘Way Out’ on the p latform and signed ‘Buses’ from the ticketoffice, goes through the ticket office and down a short flight of steps directlyto the bus station. A second route also goes through the ticket office and thendown a shallow ramp to the bus station. The route is step-free, with one setof swing doors.5.5.8 The final route is normally locked but is opened when the ticket office isclosed. It leads down a fairly steep ramp from the platform into the car park. The route within the car park is not obvious, and a subsequent ramp has asignificant upstand which would pose a difficulty to many people withmobility impairments. The only signs directing people to buses on this routeare at the end of the route by the rear entrance to the bus station, fromwhere a shallow ramp leads down into the bus station. This route hasproblems at present, both for people with mobility impairments, and in itslack of signing. Additionally, the opening hours of the ticket office are notpublished and can very from day to day, so it cannot be worked out inadvance which route will be in use at any time.Waiting Environments5.5.9 The waiting environment at the railway station is good. There are seats insid ethe ticket office, two shelters on the p latform with seating, and also bencheson the open platform. The area is clean, well lit and free of graffiti. Safety isgood during staffing hours but the route to the station through the car parkoutside of opening hours may feel unsafe after dark.5.5.10 The waiting environment at the bus station is functional but not attractive, with a large sheltered area but no seating. The bus station generally seems tosuffer from a lack of investment however it is fairly clean and free of graffiti.Interchange Facilities5.5.11 Exmouth rail-bus interchange has a fairly good range of facilities. The railwaystation has a staffed ticket office open during the day, a self-service ticketmachine, a full range of information leaf lets and standard timetables, and anelectronic departures board at the entrance to the platform. The station hasDoc No 3 Rev: B Date: November 2008 112G:\Final Report Web version\CTR-ADA Study Report Rev9.4. doc
