5.3.10 The waiting environment at the bus stop is fair. There is a shelter with aperch seat. The area is clean but the bus timetable case has glue or stickytape marks on it which makes the small text on the timetab les harder to read.Interchange Facilities5.3.11 Axminster rail-bus interchange has a good range of facilities. The railwaystation has a staffed ticket office open throughout the day, toilets, a selfserviceticket machine, a full range of information leaf lets and standardtimetables, an electronic departures board on the platform and another in theticket office. The station has good signage and there are also luggage trolleys. There is a café on the station p latform with indoor and outdoor seating on theplatform. It is open from early morning to early afternoon. There is a publictelephone outside the station.Likely Usage‘The main bus service through [Uplyme] is the No.31 service from Weymouthto Axminster…Unfortunately, this service is nearly always late, so do not relyon it if you have a tight transfer at Axminster’‘There is a station cafe where a hearty breakfast and a mug of tea can bebought while you wait for the train [after the one] you missed because thebus was late.’[Browne 2008]5.3.12 The Axminster Rail-Bus interchange is likely to be well used on weekdays andSaturdays, but is less usef ul on Sundays. Connection times from the JurassicCoast are poor in the London direction, where a wait of around 50 minutes isusually required. Whilst wait times for Exeter trains tend to be short, delaysaccrued on the 31 bus service over its 2h 20min journey from Weymouth oftenresult in advertised connections being missed (and consequent very long waittimes). However, On Sundays the b us-rail connections are, in general, poor, and the 885 bus does not operate.5.3.13 Service 31 is financially supported by the two County Councils. Steps shouldtherefore be taken at the time of contract renewal to ensure improvedDoc No 3 Rev: B Date: November 2008 91G:\Final Report Web version\CTR-ADA Study Report Rev9.4. doc
