One of the initiatives is to deepen AdelaidePort’s outer harbour channel, from 12.2 to 14.2 metres. The current depth cannot handlelarger vessels, which are expected to replace smaller vessels following the channeldeepening at Melbourne Port. The deepening of the channel is required to receive largercontainer vessels to meet future high growth in export and import demand as well as toensure larger ships do not bypass Adelaide Port. It allows large vessels to enter andleave the harbour with a full load irrespective of tides. If the channel is not deepened by66
