One <strong>of</strong> the initiatives is to deepen AdelaidePort’s outer harbour channel, from 12.2 to 14.2 metres. The current depth cannot h<strong>and</strong>lelarger vessels, which are expected to replace smaller vessels following the channeldeepening at Melbourne Port. The deepening <strong>of</strong> the channel is required to receive largercontainer vessels to meet future high growth in export <strong>and</strong> import dem<strong>and</strong> as well as toensure larger ships do not bypass Adelaide Port. It allows large vessels to enter <strong>and</strong>leave the harbour with a full load irrespective <strong>of</strong> tides. If the channel is not deepened by66
