C. POLICY CONTEXT FOR DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS9Within the context <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Plan</strong>, <strong>Downtown</strong> <strong>Las</strong> <strong>Vegas</strong> shall be defined asthe geographic area generally contained within the boundaries <strong>of</strong> the southernparcels along I-515 on the north, western parcels along 6th Street on the east,Sahara Avenue on the South and Interstate-15 on the west, and extending alongEast Fremont Street to Charleston Boulevard (Map 4). The centerline <strong>of</strong> SaharaAvenue is the boundary between the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Las</strong> <strong>Vegas</strong> and unincorporated ClarkCounty. This land area, approximately one-half mile wide and one and one-halfmiles long and nearly 1500 acres, is divided into ten unique districts (Map 5):1) Office Core;2) <strong>Downtown</strong> Gateway;3) <strong>Downtown</strong> South;4) 18b The <strong>Las</strong> <strong>Vegas</strong> Arts District;5) Parkway Center;6) Central Casino Core;7) Northern Strip Gateway;8) East Village;9) Fremont East District; and10) Industrial District.LAS VEGAS DOWNTOWNCENTENNIAL PLANV I S I O NThis area <strong>of</strong> study is the central portion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Las</strong> <strong>Vegas</strong><strong>Downtown</strong> Redevelopment Area, but excludes the Redevelopment Agency’ssurrounding local neighborhood centers that are not a part <strong>of</strong> this plan.The ten planning districts within this study area are defined by thepredominant type and intensity <strong>of</strong> land uses, general architectural character,and qualities <strong>of</strong> the streetscape within them.
