<strong>NMICS</strong> <strong>2010</strong>, Mid- and Far Western RegionsDisposal <strong>of</strong> child’s faeces is considered to be safe if the child itself is using an improved toilet facility(toilet/ latrine) or the stool is disposed <strong>of</strong> down an improved toilet facility.Table WS.7 shows that less than one fifth (17 percent) <strong>of</strong> children aged 0–2 years in the MFWR hadtheir faeces disposed <strong>of</strong> safely. There was little variation by region. Subregionally, the highestproportion was in the Far Western Hills (21 percent) and the lowest was in the Far WesternMountains (10 percent). Children in urban areas (37 percent) were more likely to have their faecesdisposed <strong>of</strong> safely than those in rural areas (15 percent). There is positive relationship betweenmother’s education and household wealth status: children whose mother had at least secondaryeducation (33 percent) were more likely to have their faeces disposed <strong>of</strong> safely than other children,and children in the richest quintile (44 percent) were nearly 13 times more likely to have their faecesdisposed <strong>of</strong> safely than those in the poorest quintile (three percent).91
