<strong>Wilmington</strong> UNIVERSITYMaster in Special Education (MSE)The Teacher Internship Portfolio AssignmentThe Teacher Internship course assignment <strong>for</strong> inclusion into the MSE Program Portfolio is a compilation of pretest/diagnosticin<strong>for</strong>mation of IEP goals/objectives/benchmarks, lesson plans and implementation of those planswith post-test/diagnostic in<strong>for</strong>mation discussing what the students have learned.If students have not learned, then lesson plans <strong>for</strong> correction and implementation are designed with resultingassessment in<strong>for</strong>mation reporting the level of success <strong>for</strong> successive lessons is reported. Students are to use theWilmU Lesson Plan Template or the state/district approved lesson plan <strong>for</strong>mat. Rubrics used to assess thisassignment are at the end of this document.Assignment ParametersSelect students – Two students whom have IEP goals/objectives should be selected.Provide background in<strong>for</strong>mation about students selected - Grade level <strong>for</strong> each student, disabilityclassification, and reason(s) <strong>for</strong> students’ placement into special education.Select two (02) IEP goals/objectives/benchmarks per student to focus on – The two (02)goals/objectives/benchmarks selected per student must be goals/objectives/benchmarks that are measurable,specific, and observable.Data Collection (Pre-test) – Do a pre-test to determine the students’ present level of per<strong>for</strong>mance (PLOP)and/or knowledge. Provide dates when test(s) were administered.Convert the goals/objectives/benchmarks into learning statements – Provide statements of studentper<strong>for</strong>mance that include both a description of what the students know, understand, and are able to do currently.Determine the “problem” – What can I as an educator do to (improve/decrease/increase, etc.) the selected IEPgoals/objectives/benchmarks <strong>for</strong> each of the two (02) students selected?List your ideas – Brainstorm possible courses of action and likely consequences <strong>for</strong> each idea suggested.Evaluate your ideas – Determine which are likely to provide desired results and will result in changes that youcan monitor.Determine which strategies you will use and convert them into research questions or hypothesizes – “If Iimplement this strategy … I anticipate…will happen.”Division of EducationProfessional PartnersCreating Environments <strong>for</strong> LearningPage 90 of 136
