A total of 1485 farmers were selectedprimarily but finally 1350 farmers were retained <strong>for</strong>the <strong>for</strong>mal survey.2.7 Training of local enumerators: The selectedlocal enumerators were given 2 training sessi<strong>on</strong>s atthe Department of Agr<strong>on</strong>omy, BAU, Mymensingh <strong>on</strong>data collecti<strong>on</strong> through questi<strong>on</strong>naire <strong>and</strong> organizingthe PRA/FGD in the study locati<strong>on</strong>s (Plate 2.1).[2.8 Preparati<strong>on</strong> of PRA/FGD checklist <strong>and</strong> c<strong>on</strong>duct of PRA <strong>and</strong> FGD: The PRA team developedPRA/FGD check list <strong>for</strong> three cereal crops (rice, wheat <strong>and</strong> maize) <strong>and</strong> thereafter c<strong>on</strong>ducted severalPRA <strong>and</strong> FGDs in the study locati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>for</strong> rice (Rajshahi, Rangpur <strong>and</strong> Jessore), wheat (Rajshahi,Dinajpur <strong>and</strong> Rangpur) <strong>and</strong> maize (Rajshahi, Dinajpur <strong>and</strong> Kishoreg<strong>on</strong>j) crops according to the plan ofwork. The PRA <strong>and</strong> FGD were arranged in the presence of progressive farmers, extensi<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> researchpers<strong>on</strong>nel, BADC, <strong>and</strong> local seed dealers. In additi<strong>on</strong>, pers<strong>on</strong>al interviews were also c<strong>on</strong>ducted <strong>for</strong>collecting relevant data.2.9 PRA Tools/Techniques <strong>and</strong> ProcessThe study team c<strong>on</strong>ducted the PRA by using different tools, which are discussed below:i) Time line: The time line exercise was d<strong>on</strong>e to documents the sequence of key events regardingwheat <strong>and</strong> maize cultivati<strong>on</strong> in the study villages over a period of time. To identify the changesin varieties, area of rice, wheat <strong>and</strong> maize cultivati<strong>on</strong>, their use <strong>and</strong> problems, this method wasapplied.Plate 2.1 Training of local enumerators5
