The Fayette County Bar Association planned the following programming in support ofLaw Day 2013 to take place throughout May: Bicycles for Kids, Domestic Workshop,Fayette Senior Services, and the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy.The Gate City Bar Association's Community Law Clinic was held on Saturday, May18, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m at Greenbriar Mall.The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA)/Gate City Law Dayat Cascade United Methodist Church hosted by GABWA and the Gate City BarAssociation was held on Sunday, May 19 at 9:00 a.m. The Gate City Bar Association'sPast President, Clarence R. Johnson, Jr., Esq. was the speaker.The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) sponsored and/orpartnered with other organizations to sponsor multiple Law Day events in April and Mayincluding: (1) Partnering with the Atlanta Bar for the April 22 nd event at the NationalCenter for Civil and Human Rights; (2) Law Day Fair on May 3 rd ; (3) Street Law Clinicson May 9, and May 14 in partnership with Fulton Leadership Academy and The StudyHall. GABWA members taught a "Street Law" lesson on the criminal justice system; (4)On May 3 rd , GABWA partnered with the Fulton County Juvenile Court and other barassociations and hosted a Law Day Fair at the Romae T. Powell Justice Center; and (5)on May 3 rd , the Law Day Fair was followed by a Law Day Ceremony at the Romae T.Powell Justice Center.The Gwinnett County Bar Association held many incredible events in support of LawDay 2013, which included the following: (1) Law Day Banquet on April 19 th ; (2) GreatDay of Service on April 27 th , where attendees partnered with Habitat for Humanity toconstruct a house and gave a $1,500 donation to the organization; (3) extensiveeducation program with Gwinnett Public Schools throughout April, which included aposter and essay contest for students, numerous Career Day activities, and a $1,000college scholarship; (4) Golf Tournament on May 3th; and (5) Judicial Reception on May9 th . The Houston County Bar Association celebrated Law Day on May 1 st with apresentation of scholarship awards to six graduating high school seniors from HoustonCounty. Each scholarship recipient was awarded a $500 scholarship. The scholarshipswere awarded based on the student’s academic achievement, letters ofrecommendation, and a written essay on this year’s Law Day theme, “Realizing theDream: Equality for All.” They also participated in the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, whichraised $2,215 and donated approximately 300 pounds of food to the Middle GeorgiaCommunity Food Bank.133
