On October 10, 2012, I w<strong>as</strong> one <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> featured presenters for <strong>the</strong> first webinar session. I discussed <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong>’s mentoring program; outlined <strong>the</strong> program’s goal; and described how beginninglawyers comply with <strong>the</strong> mentoring and CLE components <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program.H. TILPP Director Speaks to Participants in GABWA’s Pr<strong>of</strong>essional DevelopmentAcademyOn October 27, 2012, I spoke at GABWA’s Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development Academy on <strong>the</strong> topic“Having a Mentor.” The Academy is an intensive pr<strong>of</strong>essional development school thatprepares young attorneys with less than five years or practice experience and law students for <strong>as</strong>uccessful career that includes leadership and service. As a former solo practitioner, I spokeabout <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> mentoring for beginning lawyers and solo practitioners. Also, I providedtips on how to find a mentor.I. Mentor Orientation Program Held November 29, 2012On November 29, 2012, we rewarded TILPP Mentors with complimentary CLE hours bypresenting our 2012 Mentor Orientation Program. This event is optional and provides 3 hours<strong>of</strong> CLE credit for each Mentor who attended <strong>the</strong> live program or who views <strong>the</strong> online webc<strong>as</strong>t.Serving <strong>as</strong> a TILPP Mentor is not an ordinary volunteer opportunity. It is a Supreme Court <strong>of</strong><strong>Georgia</strong> appointment. The continued success <strong>of</strong> TILPP is due to <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism <strong>of</strong> ourMentor volunteers. To date, <strong>the</strong> Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> h<strong>as</strong> appointed 3670 Mentors.John T. Marshall continued to do a yeoman’s job <strong>of</strong> co-chairing <strong>the</strong> event. An excellent facultyw<strong>as</strong> <strong>as</strong>sembled which included <strong>the</strong> Honorable Tangela M. <strong>Bar</strong>rie, Avarita Hanson, Natalie Kelly,and Debby Stone. Also, during <strong>the</strong> event, Charles C. Olson, General Counsel for <strong>the</strong>Prosecuting Attorneys Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>, developed a break-out session for prosecutors and141
