Intellectual Property Section,State Bar of GeorgiaAnnual ReportPage 44 of 67Recap:Next, the 24th Annual North American Entertainment,Sports, and Intellectual Property Law Conference is now inthe books. The event was held at the Ritz-Carlton inCancun, Mexico. This is the 12th year that the Section hasparticipated in the event. This year, the Section wasresponsible for five patent panels, one of which featuredJudges Moore and Prost from the Federal Circuit. A veryspecial thanks goes out to the Section’s sponsors who madeour participation in the event possible. These includeFinnegan, Ballard Spahr, Kilpatrick Townsend, CPI Global,Alston & Bird, Gardner Groff, and King & Spalding.Thank you all for supporting the Section.The patent panels were fantastic. I was more thanimpressed with the knowledge and preparation of theSection’s panelists. Art Gardner held a panel on designpatents. Rich Miller moderated a panel on patentprosecution after the AIA, while John Harbin led a panel onpatent litigation after the AIA. Brad Groff led a panel onindirect and joint infringement. Virginia Carron moderatedthe judges’ panel before a packed audience. From myperspective, one large part of the educational componentcame from caucusing with other attendees after the formalpanels were over. The conference exceeded my goals ofdelivering a world class patent education curriculum andmaintaining the Section’s collegial relationship with theFederal Circuit.
