INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW SECTIONSTATE BAR OF GEORGIAANNUAL REPORT – 2012-2013Section Chair – Philip Burrus~Introduction~I am both privileged and humbled to serve as the Chair of the Intellectual PropertySection for the 2012-2013 calendar year. I take great pride in being involved in theSection.Last year, the Section was bestowed with the distinguished honor of receiving thecoveted Section of the Year Award. As Chair Elect, I viewed receipt of the award as apersonal challenge to lead the Section to even greater heights this year: to provide morecontinuing legal education, to provide more social and networking opportunities forSection members, to provide more mentoring opportunities, to provide moreopportunities for our Section to give back philanthropically to our community, to betterpromote intellectual property issues to industry in Georgia, to provide more and bettercommunication to our members, to provide more collaboration between the Section andmembers of the judiciary, to provide more services to our members, and to better promoteGeorgia’s fantastic intellectual property bar nationally. If the 2011-2012 year set abenchmark with our Section of the Year win, I believed the 2012-2013 ExecutiveCommittee should use this benchmark not as a mark to match, but rather as a launchingpad from which to soar to new and unprecedented heights. This led to many goals, andthere was much we wanted to accomplish. We were fortunate enough to have a fantasticgroup of Committee Chairs who were eager to get to work. The many Committee Chairsof our Section embraced this vision and worked tirelessly this year to achieve results thatsurpassed even my lofty ambitions.The Section’s goal this year was simply to surpass the output of any year in theSection’s history. However, it should be noted that we did not want to merely surpass our227
