Intellectual Property Section,<strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>Annual ReportPage 25 <strong>of</strong> 67INCREASED CHARITABLE DONATIONS:We were able to incre<strong>as</strong>e our charitable donations this year thanks to <strong>the</strong> carfulfiscal management noted above. A few examples <strong>of</strong> our donations are <strong>as</strong> follows:1. $1500 to GLSP Survey Conducted by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> - The <strong>Bar</strong> w<strong>as</strong> seeking donationsto GLSP, a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it law firm that provides civil legal services to qualifiedpeople. Forty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 400 poorest counties in <strong>the</strong> US are in <strong>Georgia</strong>. Six <strong>of</strong> thosehave no lawyers. The Section contributed $1500 to this effort.2. $1000 to Pro Bono Partnership - The Pro Bono Partnership Atlanta is a nonpr<strong>of</strong>itthat provides all types <strong>of</strong> transactional legal work (importantly, including IPwork) for Greater Atlanta non-pr<strong>of</strong>its. It only serves non-pr<strong>of</strong>its that benefit thoseless fortunate than us (homeless shelters <strong>as</strong> opposed to <strong>the</strong> Atlanta symphony <strong>as</strong>an example). The Section donated $1000 to this effort. Every dollar is importantwith <strong>the</strong> volatility <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> economy.3. $1500 to <strong>Georgia</strong> Lawyers for <strong>the</strong> Arts - <strong>Georgia</strong> Lawyers for <strong>the</strong> Arts is anonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization dedicated to providing legal <strong>as</strong>sistance and educationalprogramming to artists and arts organizations in <strong>Georgia</strong>. L<strong>as</strong>t year, GLAconducted more than 60 educational programs and provided more than $1 millionin free legal services. GLA also maintains an extensive resource library thatcontains sample contracts, copyright information and more than 250 volumes thatartists, arts agencies, museums, galleries, attorneys and o<strong>the</strong>r members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>public can utilize. The Gala, GLA’s primary fundraising event, is integral inallowing us to continue <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong>se desperately needed services to <strong>the</strong>community. The Section served <strong>as</strong> a gold sponsor at <strong>the</strong> $1500 level.4. $500 to <strong>the</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> - This is our 13th year that <strong>the</strong> sections havehelped to sponsor <strong>the</strong> Opening Festival during <strong>the</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong>’s Annual Meeting,which is taking place June 20-23 at <strong>the</strong> Marriott Resort on Hilton Head Island,SC. The Section donated $500 to this effort.251
