Three members <strong>of</strong> our Section attended <strong>the</strong> September 11 th ACL meeting to support <strong>the</strong>legislation that we had proposed and, on November 25 th , three members also appeared at <strong>the</strong>ACL meeting in support <strong>of</strong> this legislation.b. Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Act: In <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>of</strong>2012, John Camp, Chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Military and Veterans Law Section approached our Section forour input and comments regarding <strong>the</strong> UDPCVA. This proposed legislation w<strong>as</strong> distributed tomembers <strong>of</strong> our Section’s Military and Federal Employees Committee for <strong>the</strong>ir input, commentand vote. Their input and vote w<strong>as</strong> <strong>the</strong>n given to our Section’s Executive Committee forappropriate action. Our Section worked with <strong>the</strong> Military and Veterans Law Section tocoordinate a meeting at <strong>the</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> on October 3rd between our Section’s LegislativeCommittee, members <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Legal Aid, members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Military and Veterans Law Section,members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Child Advocacy and Protection Section, and all o<strong>the</strong>r interested parties. Through<strong>the</strong> work done at this meeting, an agreement w<strong>as</strong> reached <strong>as</strong> to <strong>the</strong> proposed legislation for <strong>the</strong>UDPCVA which w<strong>as</strong> presented to <strong>the</strong> ACL meeting on September 11 th and again on November25 th . Our Section had three members at each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se ACL meetings to voice our support and toanswer any questions on UDPCVA. Finally, <strong>the</strong>se same three Section members were inattendance at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> Governors meeting on January 12 th to voice our support <strong>of</strong> this newlegislation. T<strong>here</strong> were multiple emails and many phone calls back and forth with John Campand o<strong>the</strong>rs across our country that had helped draft this particular piece <strong>of</strong> legislation. OurSection felt that, since <strong>Georgia</strong> h<strong>as</strong> such a strong military presence, this w<strong>as</strong> very importantlegislation to p<strong>as</strong>s and that our <strong>State</strong> needed to be at <strong>the</strong> forefront <strong>of</strong> this effort.c. Uniform Interstate Family Support Act: Our Section proposed newlegislation to modify our existing Uniform Interstate Family Support Act so <strong>as</strong> to bring it up todate with <strong>the</strong> latest changes. Again, this proposed legislation w<strong>as</strong> presented by three <strong>of</strong> ourSection members at <strong>the</strong> ACL meeting on November 25 th w<strong>here</strong> it p<strong>as</strong>sed unanimously, and <strong>the</strong>same three Section members were in attendance at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> Governors meeting on January12 th to support this legislation. This legislation w<strong>as</strong> p<strong>as</strong>sed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Legislature in its mostrecent session and will take effect July 1 st .218
