Mentor – Beginning Lawyer Listing: The annual listing <strong>of</strong> Mentor - Beginning Lawyer<strong>as</strong>signments is attached for your review.2. Transition Into Law Practice Program (“TILPP”) Description and Components: TILPPreplaced “Bridge <strong>the</strong> Gap”. The goal <strong>of</strong> TILPP is to provide pr<strong>of</strong>essional guidance andcounsel to <strong>as</strong>sist Beginning Lawyers in acquiring <strong>the</strong> practical skills, judgment, andpr<strong>of</strong>essional values necessary to practice law in a highly competent manner. TILPP consists<strong>of</strong> two (2) components: (1) a continuing legal education component and (2) a mentoringcomponent. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> both components satisfies <strong>the</strong> mandatory CLErequirements for <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> admission and <strong>the</strong> next calendar year.3. Mentoring Component: TILPP utilizes three (3) forms <strong>of</strong> mentoring: Inside Mentoring,Outside Mentoring, and Group Mentoring. With Inside Mentoring, <strong>the</strong> Mentor comes fromwithin <strong>the</strong> law firm or organization. In Outside Mentoring, <strong>the</strong> Beginning Lawyer is a solopractitioner who is <strong>as</strong>signed to a Mentor. Group Mentoring w<strong>as</strong> developed for BeginningLawyers who are ei<strong>the</strong>r unemployed or employed in a non-legal setting. Participants in <strong>the</strong>Group Mentoring category are <strong>as</strong>signed to groups led by Mentors.Serving As A Mentor: The Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> appoints Mentors. Minimumqualifications for appointment may be viewed at:http://www.gabar.org/membership/tilpp/upload/mentor_volunteer_form.pdf.4. Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) Component: Beginning Lawyers must attendmandatory CLE activities. The CLE activities depend on <strong>the</strong> Beginning Lawyers’ practicesetting. For example, new prosecutors attend CLE programs developed by <strong>the</strong> ProsecutingAttorneys Council; new public defenders attend CLE programs developed by <strong>the</strong> PublicDefender Standards Council.Beginning Lawyers who are nei<strong>the</strong>r prosecutors nor public defenders comply with <strong>the</strong> CLEcomponent by completing twelve (12) hours <strong>of</strong> CLE activities. The Beginning Lawyer mustcomplete <strong>the</strong> mandatory Beginning Lawyers Program by ICLE which satisfies six (6) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>twelve (12) hours requirement. The Beginning Lawyer h<strong>as</strong> a choice with regards to <strong>the</strong>remaining six (6) hours <strong>of</strong> CLE activities.
