<strong>Student</strong> - Any full-time or part-time graduate or undergraduate student, regardless ofwhether the student receives financial aid from the <strong>University</strong> or from external sources. It is theresponsibility of the students who are also employees of other outside entities to resolve any conflictsbetween this policy and provisions of agreements with their employers prior to beginningany undertaking at the <strong>University</strong> that will involve the development of Intellectual Property.Tangible Research Property - Research results in their physical form, and includes, but is notlimited to, data, notes, workbooks, software, biological organisms, chemicals, materials, compositionsof matter, instruments, machines or devices, drawings, and other property that can be physicallydistributed. Tangible Research Property may also be Intellectual Property.Use of Institutional Resources - The extent to which the creator or inventor directly or indirectlybenefited from university materials, equipment, facilities, staff, funding, material support, and other, asdefined by the university attorney and by the Intellectual Property Committee. However, the mereuse of an <strong>University</strong> office does not constitute "use of <strong>University</strong> resources."<strong>University</strong> - Refers to the <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> System which includes the following campuses:<strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> and A&M College at Baton Rouge (SUBR); <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> at<strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> (SUNO); <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA); <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong>Law Center (SULC); and the <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> Agricultural Research and Extension Center(SUAREC).<strong>University</strong> Resources - All tangible resources, including facilities, provided by the <strong>University</strong> toauthors, creators, and inventors, (originators) ) including, but not limited to, office, laboratory, andstudio space and equipment; computer hardware, software, and support; secretarial service; research,teaching, and laboratory assistants; supplies; utilities; funding for research and teaching activities,travel; and other funding or reimbursement. "<strong>University</strong> Resources" do not include salary, insurance, orretirement plan contributions paid to, or for the benefit of the author, creator, or inventor.140
