<strong>Student</strong>s may also be awarded funds through the Federal/<strong>University</strong> Workstudyand SEOG programs, provided funds remain available. Summer onlystudents are not eligible for financial assistance.<strong>Student</strong>’s Rights and Responsibilities<strong>Student</strong>s applying for financial aid at SUNO have certain rights and responsibilitiesof which they should be aware of throughout the application andawarding process.RightsThe student has the right to know:1. the financial aid programs available at SUNO;2. the financial aid application procedure, includingapplicable deadlines;3. how his or her financial aid eligibility wasdetermined and how his or her need was met;4. the <strong>University</strong>’s refund and repayment policies; and5. the <strong>University</strong>’s standard for maintaining satisfactoryacademic progress and the consequences if such progressis not made.All students have the right to make an appointment with their Financial AidCounselor in the Financial Aid Office during normal working hours in orderto review their files. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (504) 286-5263.ResponsibilitiesThe student has the following responsibilities as a recipient of financial aidat SUNO:1. to complete and submit all required financial aid application materialsaccurately, by the established deadlines;2. to promptly respond to inquiries and documentation requests from theFinancial Aid Office;3. to provide the <strong>Student</strong> Financial Aid Office with accurate information.(Deliberate misrepresentation of information is a violation ofthe law and could result in repayment of all aid received and indictmentunder the U.S. Criminal Code.);4. to notify the <strong>Student</strong> Financial Aid Office if there has been a changein the family’s circumstances, or if additional assistance is receivedfrom outside sources;5. to comply with agreements made in accepting aid from federal, state,and institutional programs;70
