STUDET HEALTH SERVICESLocation: Lake Campus, Building 3Hours: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM Monday – FridayTelephone: (504) 286-5374<strong>Student</strong> Health Services office focuses on preventive health care through educationand is available to all enrolled students. One (1) full-time registerednurse, and one (1) part-time physician provide these services. Each studentpays a nominal non-refundable fee for basic health services which are includedin tuition fees.<strong>Student</strong> Health Services provides health counseling, health information, andmedical care for minor medical problems. Through <strong>Student</strong> Health Services,students with major medical problems are referred to local hospitals and/orspecialists. <strong>Student</strong>s requiring X-rays, laboratory tests, and dental care arereferred to local physicians/agencies.<strong>Student</strong> Health Services is not a total care facility and cannot care for studentswho may become seriously or critically ill. In the event that a student is seriouslyinjured or becomes seriously ill while on campus, emergency or paramedicservice will be called, if needed, to transport the injured or ill student toan outside agency. <strong>Student</strong>s are financially responsible for their owntransportation to and from outside health care agencies.<strong>Student</strong> Insurance: In addition to the on-campus health service program, the<strong>University</strong> offers a <strong>Student</strong> Accident and Health Insurance Plan for all enrolledstudents. The cost of the plan is included in tuition upon enrollment.<strong>Student</strong>s are covered at home, at school, and while traveling 24 hours a dayfor the fall, spring and summer terms. While health insurance is madeavailable, students are financially responsible for all medical expensesthat they incur, which are not covered by the <strong>Student</strong> Insurance Plan.Brochures describing the coverage and benefits can be obtained from <strong>Student</strong>Health Services and the Division for <strong>Student</strong> Affairs and Enrollment Services.Services offered include:Basic and emergency careHIV Testing (Real-time results)Free Pregnancy TestingMobile Health Unit (Tuesday and Wednesday)ReferralsTetanus shots/TB/H1N1 screenings57
