Service Greek Fraternities and SororitiesA student with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and of any classificationmay affiliate with service Greek organizations. Emphasis within theseorganizations is based primarily on service rather than academic scholarship.<strong>Student</strong> Organization RegistrationEach student organization is required to secure an application form from theOffice of <strong>Student</strong> Activities and Organizations, Lake Campus Suite 22A, andreturn it within three weeks after the first day of classes during the Fall Semester.Only registered student organizations are permitted to hold meetings andactivities on the campus.AdvisorThe advisors for established student organizations are usually full-time membersof the <strong>University</strong>’s faculty or professional staff. Depending on the sizeand/or diversity of certain organizations, some groups may wish to have morethan one advisor. It is permissible to have more than one member of the facultyor professional staff working with organizations. However, only one personserves as the official advisor.The advisor is selected by the student organization with approval from the Directorof <strong>Student</strong> Activities and Organizations. In selecting advisors, studentsshould make certain that prospective advisors have a sincere interest in thegoals and objectives of their respective organization.Advisors must approve and sign all requests for on-campus and off-campusactivities to be held by the organizations.Scheduling ActivitiesThe advisor and the Director of <strong>Student</strong> Activities and Organizations must approveall activities sponsored by student organizations and Organizations beforeactivities are held.Activities must be scheduled in accordance with <strong>University</strong> policies and proceduresand must be scheduled at times and in a manner that will not disrupt the“normal” operation of the <strong>University</strong> or other activities of the <strong>University</strong>.Conduct at ActivitiesThe sponsoring organization is responsible for the conduct of those attendingits activities. Therefore, the organization can be suspended for misconduct.If security is needed for an activity, the organization must pay for security fromits own funds. Thus, the cost of security should be taken into account when thebudget for the activity is developed.51
