<strong>Dell</strong> United Negro College Fund Scholars ProgramSupplier Diversity Recognition<strong>Dell</strong> has contributed more than $2 million to the<strong>Dell</strong>/United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Scholarsprogram. The program, launched in 2003, providesstudents with hands-on training, financial assistance,and paid internships to prepare them for potentialcareers at <strong>Dell</strong>.• National Urban League (national organization andlocal chapters)• United Negro College Fund• Catalyst• National Society of Hispanic MBAs• National Council of La Raza• Out and Equal Workplace Advocates• U.S. Hispanic, African American and Asian Chambersof CommerceSupplier Diversity<strong>Dell</strong> challenges our executives and procurement managers todrive supplier diversity into all of their procurement plans. Thisfocus helps us maintain long-term relationships with qualityminority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, andsmall businesses. It also allows <strong>Dell</strong> to support continuedeconomic growth in our diverse communities.Since 2001 (<strong>Dell</strong>'s fiscal year 2002), <strong>Dell</strong> has more than doubledour spending with small, minority, women and disadvantagedbusiness enterprises (S/M/W/DBEs). Last year, <strong>Dell</strong>spent an estimated $1.86 billion with S/M/W/DBEs.<strong>Dell</strong> is driving innovations in the supplier diversity arena,as follows:• In collaboration with the Central and South Texas MinorityBusiness Council (CSTMBC), <strong>Dell</strong>'s Supplier Diversity teamdeveloped the Coach/Quarterback Training Camp program.This mentor-protégé program for diverse suppliers and largecorporations is intended to enhance the capabilities ofdiverse suppliers by improving their ability to successfullycompete for corporate contracts for goods and services.• In preparation for <strong>Dell</strong>'s new manufacturing facility openingin North Carolina, <strong>Dell</strong> hosted an orientation day last Aprilthat attracted more than 750 diverse suppliers in the area.We also hold Supplier Diversity fairs whenever we enter anew site.<strong>Dell</strong> was recognized byCentral & South TexasMinority Business Council(CSTMBC) as 2005Corporation of the Year forour commitment to minoritybusiness development.In 2005, <strong>Dell</strong> ranked number four onDiversityBusiness.com's list of America's leadingFortune 500 companies to promote multi-culturalbusiness opportunities. <strong>Dell</strong> had the highest rankingamong technology companies.(millions)Figure 4: Spending Trend with Diverse Suppliers$2,000$1,500$1,000$500$0FY02 FY03 FY04 FY05 FY06Diversity and the CommunityContributing positively in the communities where ouremployees live and work is essential to <strong>Dell</strong>'s winning culture.Many of <strong>Dell</strong>'s community programs benefit diverse communitiesand promote digital inclusion. At <strong>Dell</strong>, we believe it isimportant for all people to be able to enhance their lives byaccessing technology.Examples of <strong>Dell</strong>'s efforts to close the gap on the digital dividein the United States and worldwide include:• <strong>Dell</strong>'s TechKnow Program, a technology initiative whereunderserved middle school students receive basic skills tobuild computers, continues to grow. To date, more than10,000 students from 42 school districts across the UnitedStates have graduated from the program; 85 percent of graduatesare minority students and 45 percent of participantsare girls.
