Middle TennesseeDell was a sponsor of Artrageous, an annual fundraiserthat supports Nashville Cares, the leading HIV/AIDS servicesorganization in Middle Tennessee.During Dell's 2005 Global Community Involvement Month, theDIS Global Contact Center Operations team volunteered at theTexas Baptist Children's Home, which provides care for abusedand neglected children in Central Texas.Central TexasDell was a sponsor of the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, whichraises money to support 10 different HIV/AIDS services organizationsin the Central Texas region. In addition, Dell supportedAustin AIDS Walk with a company presence and employeewalk team, and was a sponsor of the Interfaith Care Alliance'sannual award dinner. Dell employees are board members ofseveral organizations in Central Texas that provide HIV/AIDSrelatedservices, including AIDS Services of Austin, WaterlooCounseling Center, The Friends of David Powell Clinic, andOut Youth.ChinaIn Shanghai, China, Dell employees worked with AIDS OrphanHouse to make a donation of books and toys to children fromHIV-affected families in Henan Province.IndiaDell works closely with the Freedom Foundation in Bangalore,India which is dedicated to providing services to people andchildren living with HIV and using education to help fight thespread of HIV/AIDS. To raise money to support the FreedomFoundation, Dell sponsors an annual "fun run" in December,in which more than 1,800 Dell employees participate annually.The 2005 run raised thousands of dollars for the Foundation.In addition, the Freedom Foundation has sponsored employeeawareness training at Dell facilities, and Dell employees havevolunteered at the foundation's center.MalaysiaDell has partnered with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF)on a number of initiatives. In the annual Ride for Life, threeDell employees joined a 400 kilometer bike ride acrossMalaysia, in which riders stopped in towns along the way tooffer HIV/AIDS prevention education. Wehelp by providing comprehensive solutions that assist schoolsin reaching their educational goals, and by making technologymore affordable and accessible to students and schools.As a founding member of the Partnership for 21 st Century Skills,Dell has helped develop a vision for 21 st century learning. Thevision involves teaching skills such as information gathering,analytical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, communication,and technology proficiency.Today's teachers and students know that it is not enough forstudents to master software programs for presentations andspreadsheets. This guide presentsexamples, resources, recommendations, tools and goals ineach of nine key areas that support a coherent frameworkfor 21 st century education.• The ICT Literacy Maps illustrate the intersection betweenICT literacy and core academic subjects and assist policymakersand educators in understanding how to integrate ICTliteracy into core subjects.• The Resource Database provides a comprehensive list ofresources relating to 21 st century skills, ICT literacy, andprofessional development to assist in creating this educationfor students.21 st Century Skills in North CarolinaDell was the first business to support North Carolina's Centerfor 21 st Century Skills with a leadership gift. Dell's financial andleadership support for this unique national public-private initiativewill establish a center to bring together educators, administratorsand the business community to identify the skillsneeded to compete successfully in the global economy.
