Awards for Product End-of-Life SolutionsThe Commonwealth of Massachusetts awarded <strong>Dell</strong>the 2005 Business Environmental Purchasing and<strong>Sustainability</strong> Award, in recognition of outstandingperformance in the areas of recycling and sustainablebusiness practices. Businesses must offer environmentallypreferable products through a Massachusettsstatewide contract in order to be considered forthe award.The Recycling Alliance ofTexas awarded the OutstandingRecycling Partnership award for2005 to the founding partners ofthe Austin Computer RecyclingProject, the City of Austin, <strong>Dell</strong>and Goodwill Industries ofCentral Texas.State hosted three free recycling events for the citizens ofMichigan. The events were held in October 2005 in SterlingHeights, Muskegon, and East Lansing.National Parks ServiceThe U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Servicechose <strong>Dell</strong> in 2005 to remove and recycle more than 2,000computer systems. The National Park Service previously stored,donated or auctioned its outdated computer systems throughthe Government Services Administration (GSA), relying on itsown employees to coordinate the process.<strong>Dell</strong> Lowers Recycling Costs for Businesses and Consumers inthe U.S.In 2005, <strong>Dell</strong> lowered the cost of recycling for businesses andconsumers, underscoring our commitment to make recyclingeasy and affordable. In April, <strong>Dell</strong> announced a limited timeoffer to refurbish or recycle an unlimited number of old computersystems with no upfront cost for business customers, providedthe technology meets certain specifications. <strong>Dell</strong> alsoannounced a reduction in the price of computer recycling forany consumer from $15 to $10. <strong>Dell</strong> continues to offer recyclingat no charge to consumers who purchase new desktop or notebookcomputers or printers.Printer Recycling<strong>Dell</strong> continues to offer customers free recycling of a usedprinter with the purchase of a new <strong>Dell</strong> printer. In addition,<strong>Dell</strong> offers free recycling programs to customers for used inkand toner cartridges. For more information on these programs,see www.dell.com/recycling.Global Asset Recovery Services<strong>Dell</strong> Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Asset RecoveryServices (ARS), which was launched in 2003, is consistent with<strong>Dell</strong>'s delivery of asset recovery services in the United States.<strong>Dell</strong>'s goal is to provide a flexible, affordable asset recoveryservice to either recycle or redeploy obsolete IT equipment in amanner designed to safeguard the environment while helpingto protect confidential data. <strong>Dell</strong>'s asset recovery services inEMEA grew by more than 300 percent in 2005, as measured byweight of recovered products. This growth continues in EMEA'smajor markets because of new program launches in additionalEuropean countries. <strong>Dell</strong>'s largest ARS project in 2005 was inSwitzerland, where <strong>Dell</strong> managed recovery of more than 66,000end-of-life assets.Additional Regions<strong>Dell</strong> continues to expand product recovery offers to new marketsas customers and regulations require and as our marketpresence grows. Plans are in place to expand these servicesthroughout 2006 into several Latin America locations, Canada,and additional countries throughout Asia.Global Consumer Recycling Programs<strong>Dell</strong> offers a wide range of recycling and reuse services toconsumers in several markets. When a system cannot bereused or refurbished, <strong>Dell</strong> works with our product recoverypartners to recycle as much of the materials and componentparts as technically and economically feasible. These programscontinue to grow in scope and evolve to meet consumerdemands. For more information on <strong>Dell</strong>'s consumer recyclingprograms, see www.dell.com/recycling orwww.euro.dell.com/recycling.Free U.S. Consumer Computer Recycling<strong>Dell</strong> offers free computer recycling for U.S. consumers who purchasea new Dimension desktop or Inspiron notebook computer.While ordering a new computer online, consumers are offeredfree recycling of an old computer. For those who select thisoption, a preprinted return label is included in the box with thenew computer. Consumers place their old computer in the boxin which the new computer was shipped, apply the label, andschedule home pick-up at their convenience.
