This event was a collaborative opportunityin North Carolina, and provided the opportunity to play asupporting role in accelerating the transformation and improvingthe quality of health care in a new <strong>Dell</strong> community.Winter Drive<strong>Dell</strong> Brazil employees organized a winter drive that collectedboth money and donated goods to provide blankets and clothingto low income individuals during winter. More than 550 kitsof winter clothing and blankets were delivered.Tennessee's First StepsAmong the 19 organizations receiving <strong>Dell</strong> Foundation HealthyCommunities Grants is Tennessee's First Steps program. Theprogram operates two community-based child developmentcenters that provide early intervention and developmentalhealth programs for children with developmental delays.In a collaborative project with Outlook Nashville and theVanderbilt School of Nursing, First Steps helped establish amaster's level internship program providing health promotionand child-specific training to teachers and parents in the preschoolsetting for children with disabilities, developmentalReach Out LakotaAt <strong>Dell</strong>'s Small Package Hub in Ohio, open just over a year, theteam started a community engagement with Reach Out Lakota,an organization that supports eligible families by providingfood, clothing, shelter and personal care. With a donation atthe ribbon cutting ceremony, they raised money and food, anddonated <strong>Dell</strong> DJs for a fundraising auction.Fundraisers for Important Health IssuesThe <strong>Dell</strong> team dedicated our time and energy for fundraisingand participation in the March of Dimes' WalkAmerica, theJuvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to CureDiabetes, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation'sRace for the Cure. Employees across the United States donatedand helped to raise more than $350,000 for these organizations.Breast Cancer ResearchTo kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month andhelp promote the Komen Foundation's mission, <strong>Dell</strong> offereda special edition <strong>Dell</strong> DJ Ditty music player bundle to U.S.customers. Working together with the Foundation to raiseawareness of an important health issue, <strong>Dell</strong> supportedcommunity-wide health education on breast cancer. In addition,<strong>Dell</strong> supports the Komen Austin Affiliate Race for the Cureevent, which allows the organization to continue funding breastcancer education, screening and treatment programs. The eventis one of the largest races in Austin, with more than 20,000people participating.Juvenile Diabetes<strong>Dell</strong> employees across the United States support walks andactivities that raise money each year for the Juvenile DiabetesResearch Foundation (JDRF). <strong>Dell</strong> employees in Central Texasraised more than $105,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research in2005. <strong>Dell</strong>'s new North Carolina employees quickly demonstratedtheir commitment to <strong>Dell</strong>'s community engagement, settinga record with more than $8,000 in donations to the JDRF.
