<strong>Axiata</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> (242188-H) <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2012</strong>M1’s nationwide 4G network, launched on 15 September<strong>2012</strong>, gives its customers unparalleled access to richmultimedia applications such as high definition videostreaming and online games, as well as delivering fasteraccess to enterprise and cloud applications for corporatecustomers. M1 was also the first operator to introduce a4G roaming service and by the end of <strong>2012</strong>, subscriberstravelling to Hong Kong and South Korea were able toenjoy 4G roaming.In conjunction with its 4G launch, M1 introduced newsmartphone and mobile broadband service plans for both4G and 3G subscribers. These plans come with tiereddata bundles of 2GB to 12GB per month, with excessdata usage priced affordably.The prepaid mobile segment continued to be highlycompetitive in <strong>2012</strong>. During the year, M1 grew its prepaidcustomer base by 45,000 to 1 million, driven by variousmarketing campaigns and promotions.With Singapore’s Next Generation Nationwide BroadbandNetwork (NGNBN) achieving 95% coverage in <strong>2012</strong>, fibreservices continued to gain traction with both consumersand corporate customers.Over the year, M1 worked with various stakeholders tostreamline the NGNBN fibre service activation process,and added 30,000 customers to bring its total fibrecustomer base to 52,000.The company’s residential fibre packages include benefitssuch as no cap on international bandwidth andcomplimentary free fixed voice service with unlimitedlocal calls. To complement its existing remote technicalassistance service, M1 introduced an on-site technicalsupport service in May <strong>2012</strong>. As part of this value addedservice, M1 technicians will help residential fibre customersset up or troubleshoot their home broadband network.Several new fibre services designed to cater to theneeds of customers with specific requirements weremade available in <strong>2012</strong>. These include a fibre plan on ashorter 12-month contract, a dedicated plan for onlinegaming enthusiasts, and a special promotion for seniorcitizens with complimentary installation and technicalsupport services for their home network.In the corporate space, M1 continued to expand its suiteof enterprise fixed services. In addition to existingnetwork migration, cloud and managed services offerings,a number of new products were introduced in <strong>2012</strong>,including enterprise software as a service and mobiledevice management services.In November <strong>2012</strong>, M1 achieved the ISO/IEC 27001:2005certification (Information Security Management) for theprovision of its cloud services. The ISO/IEC 27001:2005certification’s stringent security controls and regulatorycompliance requirements enhance its offerings tocustomers operating in regulated industries includinggovernment agencies and financial institutions.In <strong>2012</strong>, M1 launched the following innovative and excitingservices:• GamePro fibre broadband plans: this fibre service,specially designed to cater to the needs of the onlinegaming enthusiast community, offers faster speedsand lower latency connection to enhance itscustomers’ online gaming experience• M1 Prepaid MasterCard: Singapore’s first telecomrelatedmultipurpose prepaid card rewards customerswith a 10% bonus to M Card top-ups. The M1 PrepaidMasterCard, a Merit Award winner at the SingaporeMinistry of Transport Awards <strong>2012</strong>, can also be usedas an EZ Link card and as a credit card for online andcontactless payments. More than 5,000 cards arecurrently in circulation• Roam Buddy mobile data usage alert service: thisservice, launched in September <strong>2012</strong>, helps subscribersbetter manage roaming usage. The free service willsend an alert to subscribers when their data usagehas reached a pre-selected limit• 4G service: M1’s dual-band nationwide 4G network,operating in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz spectrumbands, offers street-level and in-building coverage.Customers on this network can enjoy typical downloadspeeds at fixed locations ranging from 10.3Mbps to21.6Mbps.155
