GENERAL INFORMATIONThe principal activities of the Group are the provision of mobile communication services and network transmissionrelated services.The principal activities of the Company are investment holding and provision of technical and managementservices on an international scale, where it has investments in subsidiaries, jointly controlled entities andassociates. The principal activities of the subsidiaries are mainly the provision of mobile communication servicesand network transmission related services.The principal activities of the subsidiaries are set out in Note 41 to the financial statements. There has been nosignificant change in the nature of the activities of the Group and the Company during the financial year.The address of the registered office of the Company is Level 5, Axiata Centre, 9 Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, KualaLumpur Sentral, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.The address of the principal place of business of the Company is Axiata Centre, 9 Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, KualaLumpur Sentral, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.2. BASIS OF PREPARATION OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTSThe financial statements of the Group and the Company have been prepared in accordance with the provisionsof the Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (“MFRS”), International Financial Reporting Standards and therequirements of the Companies Act 1965 in Malaysia.The financial statements of the Group and the Company for the financial year ended 31 December 2012 are thefirst set of financial statements prepared in accordance with the MFRS, including MFRS 1 ‘First-time adoption ofMFRS’. Subject to certain transition elections disclosed in Note 46(a) to the financial statements, the Group andthe Company have consistently applied the same accounting policies in its opening MFRS statement of financialposition at 1 January 2011 (transition date) and throughout all years presented, as if these policies had alwaysbeen in effect. Comparative figures for 2011 in these financial statements have been restated to give effect tothese changes. Note 46(c) to the financial statements discloses the impact of the transition to MFRS on theGroup and the Company’s reported financial position and financial performance.The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention except as disclosed in thesummary of significant accounting policies.The financial statements are presented in Ringgit Malaysia (“RM”) and all values are rounded to the nearestthousand (RM’000) except when otherwise indicated.The preparation of financial statements in conformity with MFRS requires the use of certain critical accountingestimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts of assets and liabilities and the disclosure ofcontingent assets and liabilities at the date of the financial statements, and the reported amounts of the revenueand expenses during the reported period. It also requires Directors to exercise their judgement in the processof applying the Group and the Company’s accounting policies. Although these estimates and judgement arebased on the Directors’ best knowledge of current events and actions, actual results may differ.175
