BELLIN COLLEGE CATALOG2011-12Military Science Program Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)Students interested in the Military Science Program should contact the Admissions Department for additionalinformation. Military science is concerned primarily with developing leadership competence for success incivilian and military occupations. Students who want to develop these skills pursue studies in military science,in addition to the nursing major.Federal law and regulations permit <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> graduates participating in the program to be commissionedas nurse officers pending successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam.Students register for these courses at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) and classes are taught at St.Norbert <strong>College</strong>. The military science courses (MILS) consist of a core curriculum of military skills andprofessional knowledge integrated in both basic and advanced courses.These courses support educational goals by emphasizing personal depth and developing qualities necessary forleadership in civilian occupations as well as providing college-trained officers for the United States Army, ArmyReserve, and Army National Guard.A total of 20 credits are taken by students enrolled in the ROTC program in the area of MILS. Additionally, theROTC student is required to take a 3-credit course of United States History.Military Science (Transfer Courses)Students who are veterans may receive credit for military experience. Applicants must submit an officialtranscript (AARTS, SMART, CCAF) or DD 214. In granting credit, <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> follows the American Council onEducation (the ACE Guide) recommendations and <strong>College</strong> policies.BSN-Course DescriptionsBSN CoursesNursing courses are taught by the faculty of <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Nursing courses have classroom, laboratory and/orclinical components that provide the student with the knowledge needed in the nursing major and practicetime to develop clinical skills. Clinical experiences take place in acute care and long-term facilities, educationalinstitutions, public health agencies, community agencies, childcare centers, industrial health programs, andother settings which will help the student meet specific course outcomes.The BSN Program Director has the authority to grant permission for a student to register for a course.Requests will be considered on an individual basis. The schedule and courses are subject to change.Transfer of Nursing CoursesTraditional and Sophomore Options: Nursing credits taken at a CCNE or NLNAC accredited Associate Degreeor Baccalaureate program may be submitted for a credit evaluation if taken within five years of application.Selective nursing courses may transfer in for the nursing major. Nursing courses may be transferrable asgeneral education requirements if they satisfy the Human Development or Diversity requirements. A nursingcourse will not be used to complete a general elective requirement, as a general elective must be outside ofthe nursing major. Each case will be handled on an individual basis. Prerequisites for <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> will apply.15 Month Option: Students enrolled in the 15 Month Option are required to take the program in its entirety.Nursing credits earned at other colleges will not be accepted as <strong>Bellin</strong> nursing course credits. However,nursing courses taken at a CCNE or NLNAC accredited Associate Degree or Baccalaureate program may betransferrable as general education requirements if they satisfy the Human Development or Diversityrequirement.47
