BELLIN COLLEGE CATALOG2011-12Nurse Educator TrackThe Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nurse Educator track provides individuals with essential knowledgeand skills to provide nursing and health education with a broad scope of delivery. Students complete corecoursework for the MSN degree followed by courses that focus on curriculum instruction and design, teachingand learning principles, and assessment of educational outcomes. Practicum experiences are designed tomeet the individual student career goals in relation to the setting for the educational role, such as academicteaching, staff development, continuing education, and patient and community education.The core of this 38 credit curriculum is nursing leadership requiring the integration of knowledge and practice.Main contributing curricular concepts include advanced nursing roles, knowledge synthesis, systemsleadership, scholarly activity, and social responsibility.The MSN curriculum is delivered through a compressed scheduling format with each course delivered in aneight (8) week term. There are two terms in each semester. Both a web-based format and a compressedscheduling face-to-face format will be used. It is designed to allow working Registered Nurses to pursuegraduate work with minimal interruption of work, family and community obligations.*The curriculum will be delivered on a semester (16 week) basis beginning in Fall 2012.AdmissionsIt is the policy of <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> to be nondiscriminatory because of race, color, creed, national and ethnicorigin, religion, age, sex, marital status, or handicap in the admission of students, in student programs and inthe employment of <strong>College</strong> faculty and staff.Admissions RequirementsRequirements for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing program:• Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing from an accredited program• Minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale• Current license to practice as a registered nurse• Courses in nursing research and statistics (preferably within the past 5 years) at the baccalaureate level• Two professional references.• Score of at least 550 (paper form) or 213 (computer form) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) if the first language is not English• Computer literacy, including word processing, email and internet accessRecommendationsIt is highly recommended that potential students:• Have prior clinical experience (minimum of one year)• Have taken a health assessment course as part of their bachelor’s programStudent Technology RequirementsMicrosoft Office 2010 is the current version of Office used by <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong>. All documentation for coursesmust be submitted in a Microsoft Office format. Options are provided below to assist student with thiscompliance.• Option 1: Office 2010 (Purchase)Office 2010 is available for purchase to all students for $10 through the Information Technology Services.Computers must meet minimum requirements set by Microsoft fro Office 2010 to function correctly.85
