Veteran ApplicantsBELLIN COLLEGE CATALOG2011-12• Federal Veteran BenefitsTo receive veterans’ educational benefits, student-veterans must be certified. Students eligible for federalprograms, such as the Montgomery GI Bill, must be certified by both the Veterans Administration (VA) andthe <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> Registrar’s Office. For Montgomery GI Benefits, veterans must be certified upon theirinitial entry into <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong>, whether new or transfer, and for each subsequent period of enrollment.Generally, a veteran has 10 years to use the 36 months of GI Bill Entitlement. Mobilizations or other formsof active duty may extend that 10 year “delimiting” date. The St Louis VA Regional Office, which certifiesveterans’ eligibility for benefits, has a toll free number for individual educational inquiries (1-888-422-4551or 1-888-GI-BILL1). The website is www.gibill.va.gov.• New Student-VeteransMost new students applying for GI Bill benefits must use the VA Form 22-1990, Application for VAEducation Benefits, to get their entitlement started. The Form is available from local County Veteran’sService Offices, or it may be printed from the VA web site. The additional documentation requireddepends on which entitlement (i.e., Chapter) you are eligible for. See below for Chapter-specificrequirements.• Verification–GI BillMost veterans must verify their enrollment with the VA each month. Failure to do so will delay benefits.For monthly verification of enrollment, call 1-877-823-2378 or log into the VA’s WAVE (Web AutomatedVerification of Enrollment).• Co-Attendance with another <strong>College</strong>/UniversityThe co-attendance with another college/university for general education courses after transfer to and/orwhile attending <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong>, must coordinate with the <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> Registrar. Students must providethe documents for the Chapter in which students are certified to the Registrar who will then certifyenrollment for the <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> classes and forward it to the Veterans Administration Regional Office.• Credits for Military ExperienceApplicants who are veterans may receive credit for military experience. Applicants must submit an officialtranscript (AARTS, SMART, CCAF) and DD 214. In granting credit, <strong>Bellin</strong> <strong>College</strong> follows the AmericanCouncil on Education (the ACE Guide) recommendations and <strong>College</strong> policies.
