He coord<strong>in</strong>ates - withPhilippe Van Parijs - the Pavia Group that defends a statewide constituency<strong>for</strong> the Belgian federal elections.Helder De Schutter is an Assistant Professor <strong>in</strong> Social and PoliticalPhilosophy at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL, Belgium). He hasresearch <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong> contemporary political philosophy, <strong>in</strong> eighteenthcenturyFrench and German political thought, and <strong>in</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ental theories oflanguage. His recent work focuses on normative justifications ofnationalism, language policy and federalism. Drèze was born <strong>in</strong> 1929. He is married to Monique, they havefive sons, and they have sailed around the world together. Jacques holds aPhD from Columbia, and 17 Honorary Doctorates. Until 1989, he taughteconometrics and mathematical economics at UCLouva<strong>in</strong>, where hesupervised 20 dissertations and served as Research Director, then Presidentof CORE, of which he is still an active member. He was visit<strong>in</strong>g professor atCarnegie, Northwestern, Chicago and Cornell. He was President of TheEconometric Society, the European Economic Association and theInternational Economic Association. He has authored/edited 8 books andpublished some 150 refereed papers with over 60 co-authors.Jon Elster is the Robert K. Merton Professor of Social Science at ColumbiaUniversity (New York).
