<strong>2015</strong> DRAFT PICKS<br />

COLLEGE: With the 27th overall pick in the first round of the <strong>2015</strong> NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys chose to<br />

enhance their secondary with the selection of Connecticut defensive back Byron Jones. A four-year starter in<br />

college at both cornerback and safety, Jones is expected to begin his pro career in Dallas at cornerback with<br />

the opportunity to see time at safety. Jones’ rare blend of size, speed and athletic ability were on display at<br />

the NFL Combine where he recorded a broad jump of 12’3 - considered a world record - and a vertical leap<br />

of 44.5 inches. Collegiately he totaled 223 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions and 18 pass<br />

breakups while starting 38-of-43 career games for the Huskies.<br />

TRANSACTION SUMMARY:<br />

4/30/15: Drafted in the first round (27th overall) by Dallas.<br />

2014:<br />

• Started the first seven games of the season as a senior at cornerback before suffering a season-ending shoulder<br />

injury.<br />

• Finished with 24 tackles, two interceptions, including one that was returned 70 yards for a touchdown, and<br />

four pass breakups.<br />

• Opened the season with back-to-back five tackle games against BYU and Stony Brook.<br />

• Returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown at USF.<br />

• Totaled a season-high seven tackles at Tulane.<br />

• Notched his second pick of the season at No. 18 East Carolina.<br />

2013:<br />

• As a junior, started 11-of-12 games at cornerback after converting from safety to finish fourth on the squad<br />

with 60 tackles along with a team and career-high three interceptions, eight pass breakups and two tackles<br />

for loss.<br />

• Named to the 2013 American Athletic Conference All-Academic team.<br />

• Had seven tackles against Towson.<br />

• Picked up five tackles and an interception against No. 14 Michigan.<br />

• Recorded three tackles and a pick against USF.<br />

• Notched five tackles and an interception at No. 21 UCF.<br />

• Had 11 tackles at SMU then posted eight tackles and one for loss at Temple.<br />

2012:<br />

• Started all 12 games at safety as a sophomore and was the third-leading tackler on the team with a careerbest<br />

88 stops and also had 1.5 tackles for a loss, an interception and two pass breakups.<br />

• Made a career-high 13 tackles against Temple.<br />

• Had 10 tackles against Western Michigan.<br />

• Had nine tackles in three different games - at Rutgers, at USF and against Cincinnati.<br />

2011:<br />

• Saw his first collegiate action in 2011 as a redshirt freshman and earned a varsity letter, starting eight-of-<br />

12 games - and six of the final seven - at safety.<br />

• Was sixth on the team in tackles with 51, while also collecting a fumble recovery, four pass breakups and<br />

two interceptions.<br />

• Had a 10-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown to clinch the win against USF, and added six tackles and<br />

four pass breakups against the Bulls, earning BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his<br />

performance.<br />

• Had six tackles against both West Virginia and Rutgers.<br />

• Had a season-high eight tackles in the season finale against Cincinnati.<br />

2010:<br />

• Redshirted as a true freshman.<br />

• Named the Special Teams Scout Player of the Week before the Syracuse game.<br />

PERSONAL:<br />

• Attended St. Paul High School in Bristol, Conn.<br />

• Named to the Class MM All-State team by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association and was<br />

named First Team All-Naugatuck Valley as a senior and team captain.<br />

• Had three interceptions in 2009 and returned punts and kickoffs.<br />

• Team advanced to first round of Class MM state playoffs where Jones had three catches for 63 yards in<br />

the state playoff game.<br />

• Also played basketball - averaged 22.0 points-per-game - and ran track.<br />

• Interned for Connecticut's House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz and in Washington for U.S. Rep.<br />

Elizabeth Esty in the summer of 2013 before starting his redshirt junior season at UConn.<br />

• Majored in economics at UConn.<br />
