The 2014 Season At A Glance
San Francisco 28, Dallas 17
AT&T Stadium, September 7, 2014
Attendance: 91,174
The Dallas Cowboys suffered their first loss of
the 2014 season in the opener at home with a
28-17 decision against San Francisco. In the first
season-opening meeting between the two storied
franchises, San Francisco scored a touchdown
in the opening minute of the game when
DeMarco Murray fumbled and Chris Culliver
scooped-and-scored from 35 yards out. Dallas
answered on its next possession, driving down
the field on an 11-play drive and getting on the
board with a 29-yard Dan Bailey field goal. San
Francisco scored two touchdowns on Vernon
Davis receptions of 19 and two yards to close out
the first quarter with a 21-3 lead. The 49ers
added a Carlos Hyde touchdown run from four
yards out to finish the first half up 28-3.
Dallas scored its first touchdown of the season
when Murray bulled his way into the end
zone on a bruising two-yard run in the waning
seconds of the third quarter, trimming the 49ers
lead to 28-10. Dallas’ defense put together a
dominate second half, holding San Francisco
scoreless and only allowing seven first downs as
Dallas attempted a comeback, but the Cowboys
offense could not muster enough points to complete
the comeback bid. Terrance Williams
caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Tony
Romo with under two-minutes remaining, but
Dallas’ fate was sealed when San Francisco
recovered an onsides kick and ran down the
remaining time for the victory.
Dallas 26, Tennessee 10
LP Field, September 14, 2014
Attendance: 69,143
The Dallas Cowboys returned to form and
earned their first win of the 2014 season with a
bruising 26-10 victory against the Tennessee
Titans. The Cowboys pounded the ball through
the Titans defense, picking up 26 first downs and
controlling the time of possession 41:11-to-
18:49. Dallas started the scoring with a Dan
Bailey 48-yard field goal in the waning seconds
of the first quarter. Then, following a Jake Locker
interception, Dallas scored the first touchdown of
the game on a DeMarco Murray two-yard run up
the middle of the Titans defense. Bailey followed
up with field goals of 44 and 51 yards to close
out the half. Dallas’ defense held the Titans to
only two first downs in the first half and forced
their first turnover of the season when Barry
Church intercepted Locker on a high throw down
the middle of the field.
Tennessee scored on its first possession of
the second half, doubling its first half output with
four first downs on its way to a Ryan Succop 47-
yard field goal. The Titans forced a Dallas punt
and scored quickly on an explosive 61-yard
touchdown catch-and-run by tight end Delanie
Walker, pulling to within six points of the
Cowboys. Dallas went back to the ground game
and pounded the ball down the field on a 12-play
drive, culminating with a Dez Bryant three-yard
touchdown catch. The Dallas defense again
picked off Locker on an acrobatic play by
Rolando McClain, and Dallas added a 48-yard
Bailey field goal while running down the clock on
the way to a 26-10 victory.
