During the 2014 Hispanic Heritage Month dedicated
and for her service as a mentor and role model for the
professional development of young Hispanic females.
As part of her recognition, Sedillo-McGlothin was presented
a $2,000 grant for the Fort Worth Chamber of
COMMUNITY
OUTREACH
During Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the
year, the Cowboys focus their community outreach
efforts on predominantly Hispanic youth. In 2014,
Cowboys players Gavin Escobar and George Selvie
challenged Gabe P. Allen Elementary School’s predominantly
Hispanic student body to get a least 60
minutes of activity a day through a Futbol Americano
Play 60 Junior Training Camp.
The Cowboys also partnered with the Muñoz Agency
to host the NFL PLAY 60 Character Camp at AT&T
Stadium in 2013 and 2014. The two-day camp
reached approximately 300 boys and girls, ages 9 to
13, the majority of whom were of Hispanic descent.
The goal of the Character Camp was to introduce young participants to the fundamentals of football
while emphasizing the PLAY 60 philosophy of getting 60 minutes of exercise in per day and reinforcing
the importance of character in sports and in life.
FAN ENGAGEMENT & VOLUNTEERISM
Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club presented by UnitedHealthcare
The Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club is an annual outreach initiative
designed to introduce the team’s newest members to the importance
of giving back to the North Texas community. Presented by
UnitedHealthcare, the 2014 Rookie Club participated in numerous
community service projects and appearances, including at a local
junior high school, teaming up with its Fuel Up to Play 60 student
club to compete with students in a game of “Healthy Feud.” The
2015 Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club – the 15th anniversary of this
special group – has made appearances at the Reliant Home Run
Derby benefiting The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys
Academy’s Youth Football Combine this spring, and is scheduled to
make monthly appearances in the community this fall.
Community Quarterback Award
Since its inception in 2000, the Dallas Cowboys Community
Quarterback Award has recognized dozens of North Texas individuals
for their above and beyond volunteerism while providing
nearly $300,000 in grants to the nonprofit organizations they
serve. In 2014, the Cowboys teamed up with Forest Park
Medical Center to select Hadeshia Thompson as the
Community Quarterback Award winner, presenting in her honor
a $15,000 donation to Family Gateway – a Dallas nonprofit
striving to end child homelessness by providing innovative and
comprehensive housing, social and education services to
homeless children and their families.
