Dallas 42, Indianapolis 7
AT&T Stadium, December 21, 2014
Attendance: 91,899
The Dallas Cowboys clinched their first playoff
appearance and NFC East crown since 2009 with
a decisive 42-7 victory over the visiting
Indianapolis Colts. Dallas marched down the field
on a methodical 15-play, 80-yard opening drive
that took 8:24 off the game clock and ended with
a Terrance Williams nine-yard touchdown reception
from Tony Romo. Dallas then got the ball back
on the Indianapolis 19-yard line after a failed fake
punt and promptly scored on one play with a
Romo pass to Dez Bryant. Dallas followed up with
stingy defense and more effective offense, only
allowing one Colts first down in their first four possessions,
while scoring a touchdown on each its
first four possessions. The last two of those four
touchdowns came on a 24-yard pass-and-catch
from Romo-to-Beasley and then a Murray oneyard
blast through the Colts defense.
The Cowboys defense was so stout that they
held the Colts to only one rushing yard in the
game, tied for the ninth lowest total in NFL history
and the fewest yards allowed in team history.
Romo connected with Jason Witten from 25 yards
on one more touchdown before he was done for
the day, and it was historically significant as he
surpassed Troy Aikman as the leading passer in
Cowboys history with 32,971 yards. The Colts
added a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, but
this game was never in doubt for Dallas, and they
move to 11-4 on the season with the win.
Dallas 44, Washington 17
FedEx Field, December 28, 2014
Attendance: 80,897
The Dallas Cowboys finished off the regular
season with a 44-17 win over the Washington
Redskins, capping off the 12th undefeated
month of December in team history. The
Cowboys opened the game with a nine-play
drive ending in a Dan Bailey 36-yard field goal.
Washington answered with a DeSean Jackson
69-yard touchdown reception off a screen pass
to take a 7-3 advantage. Dallas strung together
four consecutive scores to close out the first half.
Dez Bryant scored the first-of-two touchdown
catches on a 65-yard catch-and-run off a hot
read screen pass from Tony Romo, and then
using a dazzling display of footwork in the corner
of the end zone to convert a 23-yard pass from
Romo into six points. The catches were Bryant’s
15th and 16th touchdown catches of the year,
passing Terrell Owens for the most touchdown
catches in a single-season in franchise history.
Bailey connected on another field goal (32) and
Murray scored on a nine-yard burst through the
Redskins defense.
Washington added a field goal before intermission,
but the game was already in hand for
the Cowboys. After a second Kai Forbath field
goal (25) and a Robert Griffin III two-yard touchdown
scamper, the Cowboys put the game away
for good with a Anthony Spencer five-yard fumble
return for a touchdown and a Joseph Randle
65-yard career-long rush. Dallas finished the
2014 regular season with a 12-4 record, their
highest regular season win total since 2007.
