This office of the future is the logical outgrowth of the cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g<br />
evolution of computer technology. Today's PCs represent the crest of a wave<br />
that has brought popular understand<strong>in</strong>g and public embrac<strong>in</strong>g of computer<br />
technology. That wave is beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g to recede. It will be replaced by another<br />
wave that has already begun to form—the development of <strong>in</strong>tegrated digital<br />
systems that more fully support the communication and the shar<strong>in</strong>g of<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation between people.<br />
