The ‘right’ to disconnection for example
Volkswagen has put in place an arrangement whereby servers for pr<strong>of</strong>essional
smartphones go into sleep mode between 6.15 p.m. <strong>and</strong> 7 a.m. Daimler-Benz allows <strong>its</strong>
workers to adopt an automatic reply arrangement for email messages sent during <strong>the</strong>ir
holidays, a particular feature <strong>of</strong> which is to avoid a situation where <strong>the</strong> worker, on
returning to work, in inundated by emails: ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> messages received are redirected
to ano<strong>the</strong>r contact or <strong>the</strong> sender is asked to resend <strong>the</strong> message at a later date.
In France, <strong>the</strong> CFDT <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> CFE-CGC signed, in 2014, a sectoral agreement on working
time with <strong>the</strong> Fédération des syndicats des métiers de la prestation intellectuelle, du
Conseil, de l’Ingénierie et du Numérique; this agreement too contains ‘right to
disconnection’ provision.

Since 2005 we have promoted a European Network on Regional Labour Market
Monitoring. This network is a sort <strong>of</strong> bridge between academia <strong>and</strong> operators (at <strong>the</strong>
moment we have around 400 members overall Europe). Every year we are promoting
<strong>the</strong> Annual Meeting <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> European Day, this year was in Milan, on last October. The
main issue was <strong>the</strong> revolution <strong>of</strong> Big Data <strong>and</strong> ITC in <strong>the</strong> workplaces (documentation
available). On <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Milan conference we also published a book with <strong>the</strong>
main findings <strong>and</strong> best practices on <strong>the</strong> issue (Anthology 2015). As follow up <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>
conference we have also promoted a European working Group on this specific issue.
Eurispes is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> founding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> network <strong>and</strong> at <strong>the</strong> moment my personal
position is to be chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scientific Committee. The coordination <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>
management <strong>of</strong> this network is carried out by IWAK <strong>the</strong> Institute for Labour <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>
University <strong>of</strong> Frankfurt (Germany): Director Dr. Christa Larsen, Network Manager Sigrid
