ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
At the outset, we would like to express our
sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Shri
Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for
Sports & Youth Affairs (Independent Charge)
for giving inspiration for organising the
Games and for support throughout.
Special recognition goes out to all the people
of the North East, who totally identified
themselves with the Games. We are deeply
grateful to the people of Guwahati & Shillong
for their support and encouragement,
without which these Games would not have
been possible. The endorsement of the people
of the Games is the most valuable outcome of
the Games.
Again, we would like to thank the
Governments of Assam & Meghalaya,
particularly the Chief Ministers and
Sports Ministers of the two states for their
extraordinary support in terms of sports and
related infrastructure, logistics support and
security cover. We would also like to make a
special mention of the Sports Departments,
Police Departments, Power Departments,
PWD, PHE, Municipal Corporations and
Development Authorities of the two states
in this regard. We would like to also make
a special mention of Central Armed Police
Forces. A special thanks also goes to Sports
Authority of India, Airports Authority of India,
NDRF, NHAI, BSNL and central ministries
who were involved with the Games for their
relentless support. The guidance received from
the Chairman, OC and Union Secretary Sports
has been invaluable.
Without the participation of athletes and
technical officials there can be no Games. We
were privileged to have over 4500 athletes and
officials who participated in the 12th South
Asian Games, which makes it the biggest
ever South Asian Games held so far. We
extend our heartfelt thanks to the Presidents
and SGs of NOCs and Chef de Missions for
their co-operation and support in successful
management of the Games.
The print and electronic media deserved
special thanks for extensive coverage of the
Games. We would like to specifically thank
Prasar Bharati for unprecedented coverage of
the South Asian Games.
The volunteers played the most crucial role
in connecting the people at large with the
Games and also for facilitating our athletes
and officials from the eight participating
nations. Our cordial gratitude goes to the
3000+ volunteers and their families for the
great work done. We would also like to thank
the artists for adding colour & glamour to
the ceremonies and would like to make a
special mention of the Sahastra Seema Bal
for playing the band and conducting flag
ceremonies throughout the Games.
We extend many thanks and gratitude to
the SAOC, IOA and the other NOCs, NSFs,
State Associations, Government of Kerala
for equipment support, and members of
OC including the creative experts. We
would also like to thank President IOA,
Secretary General IOA, GTCC, national
and international technical officials, juries
and referees for the flawless conduct of the
Games.
