TRUSTEE’S MESSAGE<br />

Our cardinal principle at Ansal University is that we are ‘learning-centric’ and not ‘system-driven’. For us, the seminal<br />

activity is the interaction between a teacher and a student, whether within a classroom or without. Every other is a support<br />

to this seminal activity. The freedom of academic enquiry precedes all.<br />

Each of our eight schools and programmes has its own specific pedagogy, methodology and emphasis. But still there are<br />

some common qualities that mark an Ansal University education. This includes the high quality of our dedicated faculty<br />

which has an international outreach, the small intimate size of our programmes and classes, the emphasis on dialogue<br />

outside the classroom and the intensive nature of the education. Among these I wish to highlight two aspects that make<br />

Ansal University experience truly distinct. First is a hands-on, discovery mode of learning: enquiry by doing. Across the<br />

different programmes, there is an emphasis on concrete doing, of moving forward from concrete problems to solutions<br />

and not from abstract principles or rote learning.<br />

This segues into the second aspect of the unique Ansal University experience. This is the hands-on enquiry that happens<br />

under the rubric of ‘Trans-Disciplinary Learning’. TDL, as it has come to be known, builds on the long tradition of a liberal<br />

arts education: to think, learn, question and research liberally, freely and yet in a disciplined manner without disciplinary<br />

boundaries. TDL emphasizes a necessary width of horizon in contrast to a narrow vocational focus and encourages<br />

students towards dialogue and team-building. It espouses in itself all the aspects of a good education.<br />

Our excellence is well illustrated by the global and national recognition our students and faculty have garnered. Across<br />

the schools, our students have won national and international awards, our faculty has published in high-impact journals<br />

and the University has hosted a number of international conferences. What has been truly remarkable are the many<br />

international tie-ups as well as the students and faculty exchange programmes that have poured into the various schools.<br />

We remain focused on the service of our nation, but our benchmarks are truly global. Our students step out confidently<br />

not only into a fast growing country but as leaders in a global arena.<br />

At Ansal University, we have embarked on a boundless journey of enquiry with imagination, discipline and determination. The<br />

works, activities and conference notes contained in the year book here are a testimony to this and a harbinger of things to come.<br />
