Second Year<br />
The second year design studio is envisioned as a ‘contextual’ studio that introduces an understanding of the urban<br />
context, building bye-laws and opportunities offered by local environments. The design studio emphasizes on progressive<br />
understanding of the site surroundings, up to the complexity and scale of a neighbourhood. Through the course, there is<br />
an emphasis on overall built form and its integration with open spaces, constructional systems appropriate to social and<br />
economic contexts and climate responsive design.<br />
As a part of the studio, a study trip is conducted, during which the students undertake a settlement study. The emphasis is<br />
on documenting and analyzing the cultural context and its impact on various building typologies and settlement morphology.<br />
The final project of the studio enables the students to engage with the issues and opportunities that emerge from the<br />
settlement study, culminating in a design project that embodies cultural expression and symbolism in form and function.<br />
