INDUSTRIAL VISITS
Visit to Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project, Jhajjar
A group of 15 students from B Tech. EEE fourth semester visited coal based INDIRA GANDHI SUPER THERMAL POWER
PROJECT which is set up at Jhajjar (Haryana) and is being executed by NTPC. The installed capacity of plant is 3 x 500
MW, two units each of 500 MW are already synchronised and the last unit is progressing towards completion by October,
2012. The visit started with a warm welcome by Mr. S Kumar (Senior Manager, NTPC) and presentation regarding thermal
plant diagram was briefed by Mr. Rakesh (Senior Manager) followed by a site visit.
The visit was planned to help the students achieve the following:
1. Recognise the process units – Boiler, Pump, Condenser, Steam turbine, Generator, Electrostatic precipitator, Pulverizer,
Reclaimer etc. & generate the process flow diagram.
2. Identify the input and output for different processes.
3. Experience the importance of working safely.
4. Understand the concept of thermal energy conversion.
5. Understand how the product of the plant is interfaced to the world.
Students found this visit very useful and they were able to remember a fair bit of information even at the end of the degree.
They had a real life experience of all the units of thermal power plant. This visit was successful in achieving its objectives.
Industrial Visit to 220KV Substation, Rohini
An industrial visit for fourth semester EEE students was organized at 220KV Substation at DTL substation, located at
sector 11 Rohini, Delhi on February 12, 2013.
The students were divided into two groups consisting of 29 students in each group for better understanding of the
equipments at the substation. This visit was organized for the students to make them understand the technical details of
the theory subject POWER SYSTEM which they are studying in their current semester.
This industrial visit provided an insight on how industries work and also useful information related to the course which
cannot be visualized in theory lectures. The industrial visit, thus met its purpose by giving the students the opportunity to
learn through observation that is needed for budding engineers. The day the students spent attending the industrial visit
was both enjoyable and useful for improvement of their technical skills.
