Reduce the Burden <strong>of</strong> HIV, STD,<br />
and Viral Hepatitis in <strong>Indiana</strong><br />
Hepatitis:<br />
The <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Department collects the number <strong>of</strong> laboratory<br />
reports <strong>of</strong> persons testing positive for Hepatitis B & C. It is a very sensitive<br />
indicator <strong>of</strong> an individual‘s risky behavior that could lead to HIV infections<br />
among the general population. In 2009, <strong>Indiana</strong> had 63 cases <strong>of</strong> acute<br />
Hepatitis B and 6,101 cases <strong>of</strong> Hepatitis C infection reported to the <strong>Indiana</strong><br />
<strong>State</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Health</strong>.<br />
