BEHAVIORAL RISK FACTORS
OBESITY
Being obese is a risk factor for heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.
Using the BRFSS, being obese is defined as including all responses to
questions pertaining to weight and height that had a calculated body mass
index greater than or equal to 30. For all races and subgroups, the
prevalence of being obese remained fairly steady at 25%-27% until 2009
when the percent of obesity in Indiana rose to 30%.
